Don't Get Confused When the IRS Refund Schedule is So Easy to Understand

Many people get confused while they are waiting for their tax refund because they do not understand how the IRS refund schedule works. You might just be surprised to learn that you can get very accurate and up to date information about the status of your refund and when it will arrive, whether by electronic deposit or standard check, by taking a very quick trip to the Internal Revenue Service's official website. Once there you are going to see a built in software tool called 'Where's My Refund?' that will help you in your quest to determine how long it will take for your refund to get back to you. This tool is available in both English and Espanol, so you will be able to use it quite quickly as long as you have the information that it requires available to you ahead of time. You will first need to know the status under which you filed your tax return: Single, Married Filing either separately or Jointly, Widower / Window, or Head of Household. Next you need the Taxpayer ID Number which is usually your own Social Security number, but you will need the same information for your spouse if you are both filing jointly, too. Finally, you will need the exact amount of your refund as stated in your tax return.

After you have gotten all of this information together then the rest is easy because all you need to do is let the tool help you figure out where your refund sits on the IRS refund schedule. It's not a very complicated process and you will see that those who choose the direct deposit method get their returns back the quickest, particularly if they chose the efile method, because this greatly reduces the labor for the IRS employees who process tax returns. Usually, if you have used the efile system to submit your tax return you are only going to have to wait 7 days until the tool can give you an approximate date for your electronic deposit or check to arrive. This is a major time saver compared to the 4 to 6 week wait those who filed by the traditional paper work method end up having to wait. Since the IRS generally updates its schedule for refunds every week, it is best to come back the following week if you have already checked once in any given week in order to avoid stressing yourself out.
