Should You e-file Your Income Tax Return?

Posted on: February 10th, 2012 by admin

With 2012 income tax season on us, many of us are looking for ways to cut the cost of submitting a Income Tax Return and get a tax refund more quickly; opting to Efile does this for you. Your swiftest response once you have filed your income tax return comes from filing that return. This is because the tax form doesn’t have to go into a large pile and wait to be captured – it has already been captured as correctly into the system as you can.

It may seem challenging at first, especially if you’ve been using a consultant. But so long as you are structured and keep your focus, you should be able to manage perfectly well on your own. You should have your previous return handy so that you can use it as a guide, Anyhow.

But remember to do approximations and revise them for the duration of the year as important financial events come about in your life. Keep a folder with all your current tax documentation and have a list in which you can tick off documents as they are received and checked for accuracy. Make a note of differences from your earlier tax return which should be incorporated in your new one.

By making use of free online tax estimation software regularly to keep up-to-date with your tax position, your latest approximation would be a good template for your last tax return. All you would need to do is to substitute the actual figures for the appraisals (you could do this on the estimating software and print the ensuing return out for reference). Compare this with the last return you submitted, and you’re ready to efile.

Even if you don’t qualify for free use of a Free File plan because your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) for 2011 is over $57,000, you would be well equipped to use Free File Fillable Form software which is available at no charge to all to use to submit their documents to the IRS e-file system.

As far as state taxes go, remember that there are World wide web sites such as Free1040taxreturn.com which will let you file your state tax return for a minimum charge of beneath $10, irrespective of your adjusted gross income. This is not a charge which would be troubled many people today.

The IRS is on your side in this: They want you to file thru the Web as it helps them keep their collection expenses low and means they don’t have to employ so many additional workers just to cope with the peak filing season. So they encourage the use of this option by making sure that it is available free of charge to most citizens.

Do remember if you have a problem being able to submit a return that you must ask for an extension before the due date for tax return and your payment is still due on time – the extension doesn’t apply to the payment, only the tax return. You should have an accurate estimation available to make a payment, as you should just be waiting for final documentation at this stage. Remember if you don’t submit a income tax return at all, the penalties are much higher than if you are just late with your payment, having filed your income tax return or asked for an extension in time.

Like so many things in life, submitting a tax return also turns into much more straightforward if you stay on top of it. With the option of becoming able to do free online income tax return estimates and Efile a return, no one should have any explanation to miss the deadline.

Earned Income Tax Credit Puts Dollars in the Pockets of Working Families

Posted on: January 30th, 2011 by admin

Tough economic times mean that working families need to make the best use of every dollar. That’s why the earned income tax credit (EITC) is good news for low- to mid-income households. By taking advantage of the tax credit, individuals whose earnings fall under a specified threshold will receive up to $6,516 based on qualifying factors. Records from previous years indicate that as many as 25% of eligible taxpayers have not filed for the credit, meaning that all that money has been sitting in Washington instead of helping families in need as intended.

If You Have Been Asking Yourself Where is My Tax Return? Here is How to Find Out

Posted on: October 18th, 2010 by admin

Thanks to massive developments in the high tech industry, even the federal government is going online these days. In 2008, a full 90 million US citizens filed their taxes online and at the rate that people are coming online, that figure is expected to rise dramatically in the coming days. While tax season can bring its share of headaches for those of us who file, it is definitely getting easier to handle thanks to the fact that you can now keep much tighter track of your return by using the web. Because of this you are never again need to get frustrated asking yourself where is my tax return? Taxpayers who wish to know the status of their returns are generally also concerned with their refunds since so many Americans have come to rely on this particular check to boost their budgets each year. The system in place for checking your return’s status works differently depending on the way that you have filed, so you will want to make sure that you have waited the proper amount of time for the type of return you submitted. Those who have used paper forms mailed to the IRS will need to wait between three and four weeks before they can check their status, but those who have filed via electronic means will be able to check their return’s status after seventy two hours. In order to check your return’s status all you need to do is visit the website of the Federal Internal Revenue Service and use their Where’s My Refund? tool provided on the site. You will need to have the following information available to you when you use this tool: the exact amount of the refund from your tax return, your Social Security number and the status which you are filing under (such as Head of Household, Married Filing Joint Return or Single). With this information in hand you simply run the tool and it will let you know whether or not your return is being processed and if you have a refund, when that refund has been mailed or direct deposited. This is definitely the fastest way to find out where your tax return is.

To Reduce Your Frustration Do Your Taxes Online This Year

Posted on: October 18th, 2010 by admin

The fact is, filing our taxes is rarely going to be what most in the United States would consider being a fun event. If you want to be able to make the process go by quickly and still handle all of the important details, then why not consider filing your taxes online? The process is exceptionally simple and it doesn’t take any more preparation than you would need to do if you planned to mail in the old forms on paper. Not only does it take less work, but it is also more secure. Gone are the risks of losing your return in the mail because with today’s technology the IRS can keep track of everything for you right on its website and let you know not only the status of your return, but when you can expect to see your refund. That is a huge advantage that many of us are going to enjoy taking advantage of and the fact that you can do so easily really does make it a lot less worrisome when you begin to get anxious that maybe you forgot a detail on your return or something along those lines.

In fact, it would be incredibly difficult to forget any details because with this newer method, as you file your taxes online, the computer automatically checks your arithmetic and whether or not you have entered valid information into each line. This means that instead of being told you’ve made mistakes after your return was sent in, you get told instantly so you can make quick changes and set everything back to the way it should be. This reduces the lag time and the fact that the IRS has less work to do means that your return will get processed in a matter of hours instead of a matter of weeks. That is definitely good news for those of us who would like to get done with filing our taxes as quickly as possible. Since you don’t have to worry about errors or missing information and you get updates whenever you care to go check, the hassle really is taken right out of the filing process. That’s why an ever increasing amount of people are now turning to this solution. By making things simpler, costs have been lowered; labors reduced and even the natural environment benefits from our much lower paper usage. With the online solution, all taxpayers win.

Relax, Keeping Track of Your Tax Return Status is a Breeze

Posted on: October 18th, 2010 by admin

In the past, if you wanted to be able to check out how your return was doing with the IRS you would have needed to wait a very long time and then call their hotline directly. This meant waiting on hold for who knows how long and all sorts of other problems simply to check your tax return status. In today’s world we have options that are not nearly as frustrating to deal with thanks to computers and the rising popularity of the web. Now we can actually check the status of our returns online right through the official site of the IRS itself. This means you can go straight there, whether you filed online or not, and get a heads up on how your return is doing. You have to wait 3 full days if you have filed over the web or 4 to 6 weeks if you used the traditional paper forms, but you will notice that on their site they have a tool. This tool is called “Where’s My Refund?” and while it definitely does give you information about your refund, it also gives you the general status of your return. This is the absolute fastest way to check the status of any return and you will be shown the information, right down to the date you can expect to receive your refund, within minutes.

Once you know when your refund is due to arrive you will notice you don’t have to worry quite as much, but there are bound to be people who check their tax return status only to see that there is a problem. Or, you may find that you need to amend something. The 1040X form can help you do this, but if the IRS has a problem with your return they are going to send it back to you for the needed changes. This is, of course, much easier for them to do if you have filed online. If you mailed your return in then you are going to have to wait until it finishes its transit through the postal system and that can be a pain. If you have made a mistake on your address, then there could be more issues to watch for, but most people find that their return is accepted easily enough and snags are, on the whole, quite rare. If you have chosen to receive a direct deposit into one or more bank accounts, then the IRS will give you a date when you can expect these, but if you plan to get a check then you will also get a date for that.

How to Go About Tax Return Preparation

Posted on: October 18th, 2010 by admin

These days, many people find that they are uncomfortable just by thinking about taxes, much less actually getting ready to file. A lot of this comes from the genuinely human tendency to procrastinate when it comes to situations that we don’t like. If you are thinking about tax return preparation and you don’t know where to start, you are not alone. Of course, we all have to pay our taxes and there is no time like the present to learn how to get ready so we can have the smoothest possible experience that we can. Obviously, one of the first things you are going to need to know is where your records are. These are your pay stubs from your employer, your receipts from expenses you’d like to deduct and other financial data along these lines. A lot of people use book keeping software that will give them print outs of all these figures, so if you are one of those people then make sure to take advantage of your own skill at records keeping and use what you can from your accounting software. If you don’t have this kind of software then it helps to keep records yourself, but either way you need to do your best to find the right receipts for proof of expenses, verifications of all income you’ve earned and all of the financial information regarding investments such as interest statements from bank accounts or dividends reports from your stock holdings.

Once you have these records gathered together everything will be a lot easier because you will be able to fill in all the required fields, but if you add things up ahead of time, that never hurts. One big area that you should consider in tax return preparation, particularly if you have a family, is making sure that you have all of the Social Security ID numbers of everyone involved. This includes all dependents and, if you are married and filing for a joint return, your spouse. Be sure to get your dependent’s dates of birth, as well, since you will need this if you plan to claim them this year. Don’t forget that you may need last year’s tax return, too, so if you can have that on hand already, things will go by more quickly. Keeping yourself in the good graces of the IRS requires solid record keeping so if you’ve not done that this year, then it’s a great time to promise yourself that you will next year.
